The Village Tea Ladies

The ‘Village Tea Ladies’ initially were Ann and Avril who gained their experience through wielding a teapot at the many services and fundraising events in Cawthorne Church. They were also Church Wardens for over ten years!!

Their first venture with the Rusby Family was at the evening concerts at the Farm when they provided hospitality for the artists taking part, which ranged from a string quartet to a brass band. When the idea of a festival was mentioned, they had no idea what would be expected from them, but boy did they rise to the challenge! Co-opting Kay who keeps their feet firmly on the ground, they have now gathered a small team of very willing and enthusiastic helpers. Plus they are the FRIENDLIEST ladies around!

All monies raised, after expenses, is given to All Saints’ Church, Cawthorne. The beautiful Grade II listed Church needs constant care to keep it in a good and healthy state of repair, therefore, fundraising is essential. Over the last six years these lovely ladies have contributed to many major projects, including:

– Re-wiring and fitting new lighting in the Church

– Providing a mini-kitchen area along with the installation of toilet facilities in the Church

– Fitting a new gas boiler for the Church

This year, permission has been granted to treat the rising damp, and to also level the uneven flooring in parts of the Church.

So bob over and see them, enjoy a welcome cuppa and a slice (or two) of the delicious cakes on offer. It is an oasis of calm where you can sit and chat to friends old and new. See you there!
