In conversation with Milly Johnson

We are very lucky to be joined by author Milly Johnson, who was born, bred and still lives in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. An only child with a passion for writing stories, Milly’s parents weren’t interested in books but her grandparents loved them and inspired Milly’s interest by bringing her copies of Enid Blyton’s classic tales, The Wishing Chair, The Enchanted Wood and Amelia Jane.

Milly loved school and wanted to be an author but never thought that girls from a working class background could aspire to those heights; until she discovered books by the great  northern writers Catherine Cookson and Barnsley’s own, Barry Hines.

Now one of the Top 10 Female Fiction authors in the UK, 16 novels on and with millions of copies of her books sold across the world, Milly’s star continues to rise. A story of hope, resilience and the importance of community, kindness and friendship, Milly’s life, like her writing, show that with drive and an indomitable spirit, life really can be magical.
